Where is Spring?!?

Everyone knows how much I don't love winter and this one seems to be ENDLESS! We had about two inches of snow this morning and more predicted for tomorrow. AAAAHHHHH! I remember last year complaining when it was still snowing at the end of February - now it's almost the first of April!!!! We have a robin hanging around the house who has lost it completely. Every day, starting at 6:30 a.m., he begins beating himself against our picture window desperately trying to get in. He has been doing this for so long that his feathers are all ruffled and he looks a little retarded. My window doesn't look so hot either! However, I can't blame him. I would want to get in out of the cold and snow, too. The poor thing is probably thinking he migrated too soon....

Just want to give a shout out to my friend Kathryn who had a baby boy today. We've been praying for little Seth Douglas for several months now as they were aware that he would be born with a serious heart defect. He did arrive today and is now awaiting evaluation to see if he is a candidate to have heart surgery on Tuesday. If you think of it, send up a flare for this precious baby and his family. We're all pulling for you, Seth!

Easter is....

....a great day for the bros to play back yard catch.

......a great day to play endless fetch with the "granddog"

......a great day for a "catch up" nap!
Easter is......one of my favorite days of the year. We went to an awesome Easter service at church, enjoyed a yummy Easter dinner prepared by Keith, played a little "Farkel", watched a little NCAA basketball (Go Cougs!), watched "Enchanted" and celebrated the fact the Christ rose from the dead so we could enjoy this awesome day!

Good Friday Snow

The fact that Easter is so early gives us an added challenge this year. Right now it is snowing heavily and we already have about an inch on the ground. A challenge for Timberview's Kids Easter Egg Hunt tomorrow. Hopefully the sun will break out and melt this before then. At least the colored eggs will be easy to find - ha, ha!

For me personally, I struggle with letting the endless winter make me grumbly. My mindset is SPRING! I am ready for short sleeves and capris and sandals and instead on Easter I will be wearing thick tights under my dress and a heavy coat! Arrrgggg!

One redeeming thing is the NCAA basketball tournament - I watched the WSU Cougars tromp a team yesterday and an intense game in which Duke SQUEEKED out a one point win. This morning Gonzaga plays in North Carolina against a tough Davidson team. And I have to work with no t.v. - oh, well, when G.U. plays in the tournament I always have a hard time watching anyway and have been known to hide behind the couch when it gets too intense. Good luck, Bulldogs!

Surprise!!!!!

I'm pretty sure this was the look on my face!

So despite the fact that I mentioned in a past blog that I reaaalllly don't enjoy surprises, my family SURPRISED me with a 50th party last night at our friends Karen and John's house. Apart from the first moments of horror and a desperate desire to flee when I realized that thirty people were all staring at me and singing, I survived and even enjoyed the time with a number of our closest friends. It was a delightful mixture of people mostly from our church family including Pastor Glenn and Nancy, former pastor and now Bishop Matt and Marlene, and assorted Timberview staff, small group members, and friends. It was a good time and while being the center of attention was somewhat painful for me, it was nice to feel loved and appreciated. Keith made all the food and Whitney helped with the planning - they put a great deal of time and effort into this gathering that didn't go unnoticed by me once I started speaking to them again. I made them each make a pact that this will be a one time event and there will be no more surprise parties in the future. The party part is fine, it's the surprise part that is not so enjoyable! Yikes! And I won't even mention all the lies that had to be told to make this event happen. I pray forgiveness for each and every one who took part in this massive deception.

All in all, I think I can put a wrap on turning fifty! I have certainly been the recipient of lots of well wishes, kindness and love. I am humbled and appreciative. But I am done now........

On turning fifty....

So today I hit the half century mark. What an achievement! Some people may not feel that way about meeting this milestone, but I'm just grateful to still be having birthdays and will celebrate each year like it could be my last! I used to enjoy just letting the birthdays come and go relatively unnoticed, but since my bout with cancer, I consider each year another one to rejoice over! My birthdays now tend to last as long as two weeks with dinners, lunches, celebrations with family and friends. Who could complain about that (except for the fact that it's another excuse to put my weight loss plan on hold)?

Today I got to have lunch with my husband and kids without a lot of hoopla but it was just the way I like it! Alex came in from Cheney, Whit took a long lunch and Keith joined us between sales calls. I'm not one who likes being the center of attention and I would not enjoy a surprise party, so a simple lunch at Pita Pit was perfect! I received cards and warm wishes in the mail and via e-mail and just feel pretty special and very loved. What more could a fifty-year-old girl want for her birthday?!

Spring is in the Air

How delightful to see this scene in our backyard this morning. The robins and waxwings are back!!! Spring is definitely on the way!!!!
These pictures don't really show how many birds were flitting about, bathing in our waterfall and stripping the last of the berries from the mountain ash trees. And of course I can't capture the chirping and chatter. I spent a good half hour enjoying the show. Yay, birds! Yay, spring! Yay, God!
Click on these pics for a close-up - the colors are quite spectacular!
