Looking Down the Road

Wish I could say I had something new and exciting to blog about. Winter continues and my disdain for the month of January remains. I don't like being cold, I miss the sun, I passionately dislike bundling up, I don't enjoy it being dark by 5:00. However, we are in the home stretch now. I realize there isn't generally a lot of change of weather in February, but there is something about the fact that it is short and one month closer to spring that makes it better. Almost there!

It totally boosted my spirits that today we are booking our condo for February 5-15, 2010. You may be thinking that it's a long way off, but one more January to survive with the reward of Maui beach time......  Gail and Roch and Whitney and Travis are going, too, and I'm am SOOO looking forward to it. Some of my favorite people in my favorite place in the world!

Another fun thing is that I officially started my new Executive Assistant position at Timberview. I am looking forward to a little something different than what I have been doing for the last six years, and I even have my own office space. I think the world of Pastor Glenn and look forward to assisting him in ministry. Delightful!

We are enjoying a nice new high def, blue ray t.v. thanks to one of the companies Keith distributes for and we added a new entertainment center (one thing ALWAYS leads to another....). We'll be hosting a small Superbowl gathering on Sunday to break it in.

So despite the weather, there are good times, good friends and things to look forward to. Another January bites the dust.....

Top Ten Report

I was looking over my Top Ten for 2009 list and realized I am actually making some progess already. Here's the update:

1. Get back to healthy eating and hit the elliptical at least four days a week. I have been eating much healthier, but it's hard to hit the elliptical when it's broken.
2. Make it to the Oregon coast. Nope.
3. Sponsor a child through Childcare International. Signed up to sponsor a little boy in India. I am excited to send our first check.
4. Paint at least one room in the house. Thinking about it.
5. Get my car back from the mechanic whose had it for four months rebuilding something. I don't want to talk about it.
6. Continue purging the house of unnecessary junk. Cleaned up the basement, made piles to go to Goodwill.
7. Read at least one book a month. Currently reading two.
8. Get more creative in the cooking department. Found new recipes for Cooking Day and tried 4 of them.
9. Make mini trips to Montana, Eugene, Seattle. Have to wait till weather is more cooperative.
10. Make plans to get out of town next winter - WAY out of town. Already cruising the net for Maui tickets and condos for Feb. 2010.

THERE ! Two blog posts to brighten your day!

January Doldrums

So my friend Kathryn who is a blog addict like myself, pointed out to me that it has been awhile since my last blog. So I asked myself, "Self, why has it been so long since you blogged?" And I answered myself, "Because I'm not thinking anything blogworthy."

It's January. The worst month of the year in my estimation. It's winter. It's cold. It's foggy. It's gray. It gets dark at 4:30. Christmas is over. It's a long stretch till spring. I'm not going anywhere tropical. I have to bundle every day. I can't wear flip flops. My elliptical is not working right. (Are you enjoying my blog post yet?)

Consequently, this is why I haven't blogged. I have the January blues. I'm sure my readers don't need to read my whine, but since Kathryn insisted.....

I am ATTEMPTING to do things to get through the month: cleaning and reorganizing, reading, listening to music, watching reality t.v., eating, sleeping...... and then I start over again tomorrow. I will get there. But in the meantime, I don't have much to blog about.

My readers can hope that something exciting or catastrophic happens so it will give me something to report. Or they can just tolerate the sporadic nature of my blogging.

Welcome to January. My "favorite time of year."

2009 Top Ten

The snow has subsided for the moment. The temp this morning is around -10. The sun is shining brightly on the snow. Getting around is still a challenge. Roofs are collapsing all over town. Water issues abound from broken pipes and backed up ice dams. Happy 2009!

In light of the fact that I have a need to refocus my thoughts in order to stay positive, here's my list of top ten things to do in 2009:

1. Get back to healthy eating and hit the elliptical at least four days a week.

2. Make it to the Oregon coast.

3. Sponsor a child through Childcare International.

4. Paint at least one room in the house.

5. Get my car back from the mechanic whose had it for four months rebuilding something.

6. Continue purging the house of unnecessary junk.

7. Read at least one book a month.

8. Get more creative in the cooking department.

9. Make mini trips to Montana, Eugene, Seattle.

10. Make plans to get out of town next winter - WAY out of town.

I challenge each of my readers to make a Top Ten List (or at least Top Five) and leave it in my comments.
